Guest Artist...   Elvin (Al) Lovein

Elvin Lovein is my dad, who happened to be a prolific artist when he wasn't gardening or doing police work. He passed away January 2000, a few weeks short of his 80th birthday. Several years later, Mom gave me these charcoal sketches he had done in his early years. The few that are dated were in 1962, the year I graduated from high school. The very last one was dated 1997 and was done as a joke between friends. Most were drawn on newsprint. Of course I was thrilled to receive them, especially since I had just taken up drawing. Even though Dad isn't around to appreciate the internet, I think he would be pleased to be included here. He became quite a good artist in oil paints, specializing in portraits.  These charcoal portraits are of family, friends, actors, and others.

Image 2 is my high school graduation photo. He did good, but the mouth isn't quite right.

Image 3 is an actor. I don't recall his name offhand, but do like his work.

Image 4 was a co-worker of my dad in the police dept.

I think image 5 is another actor.
