Somewhat fascinated with the Manga eyes, I've decided to try drawing a few. Image 172 is my first attempt and I didn't concern myself with the clothing. I am out of my element here! However, I am looking forward to the time, after lots of practice, when I become comfortable with this type of drawing.

Image 173 is my second attempt at drawing Manga. I'm using Christopher Hart's books and trying out his various eyes for Chibis (those adorable young children and baby animals with the BIG eyes.)

I've also been watching Mark Crilley on YouTube. He's got some great Manga instruction videos.

There are so many styles, especially of eyes, and my goal is to eventually come up with my own style, even if it isn't pure Manga. I'm still not comfortable drawing these characters, but as with doodling, it takes practice so I'll get there eventually. Down the line I'd like to include these little ones in some of my doodles.

For now my focus is to simply get my hand used to drawing this way so am sticking with pencil and pen. At some point in the future I will add color.

It's fun and refreshing to get out of my comfort zone and try something new.

Image 174 is another lesson from Christopher Hart's book, Manga for the Beginner. I'm not thrilled with this style of eyes, but that's what this lesson had. So far I think I like the eyes in image 172 the best, although the rest of the drawing looks washed out.

Drawing this kind of hair is becoming a tad less difficult, but still a ways from comfortable.

Image 175 is a quick pencil sketch. It's not anywhere near as dramatic as image 174 that is drawn in pen and shaded in pencil.

Mostly I was after more eye practice.

Image 176 is just your average doodle. Decided to take a break from Manga and rest my brain.

Image 177: I wanted to draw something and try my hand at using color. Here is the pre-color version. I must admit, there's a lot I need to learn about color. I drew a heart and this little gal is what appeared. Made a big boo boo with the left eye in placing the second highlight on the wrong side. Had already inked in the black before I discovered it so she has rather strange eyes. ;-)

Here is the colorized version with a few extra details.

Image 179 was done as a simple doodle with no forethought and the noodles (designs) also kept simple with many being repeats. A break from thinking.

Had fun with image 180. First I made the frame, having no idea what I was going to put inside. Decided on a lady silhouette. After it was finished I made a photocopy to play with using a filler and image b is the result. I'm not sure which one I like best. What is your opinion? I'd really like to know!
