How long have you been doodling?
Like most everyone, I've been sort of doodling all of my life.
However, I started seriously in 2005 and only recently discovered
that other people like to doodle too. There are some great doodling
websites on the links page and I'll continually add more as I find them.
How long does it take you to do a drawing?
Depends, but most drawings, if I spend several hours a day will
take two days to two weeks. Simple doodles can take just a few
minutes.
Where do you get your ideas?
That's the fun part. Most of the time I don't do any planning. I
just pick up a pencil or pen and start in and the end result is a
surprise. This form of art is actually good for me because I've
always been one to need to have everything organized and planned in advance. It's been an
adventure of personal growth to allow myself to "zone out" and see
what happens. Sometimes I don't like the end result and throw it
away. It's all just part of the process and no learning is wasted.
Does this form of art take a lot of talent?
I'd like to think so. ;-) However, doodles are in the eye of the
beholder and anyone can doodle if they're willing to spend a little time. In fact, it's quite entertaining to watch people when they
look through my work. Some are enthusiastic while others can barely
stifle a yawn.
What type of tools do you use in your work?
Currently I'm using the Sakura Micron pens because they do a pretty
decent job for being cost effective. I use all of the sizes made. I'm using smooth white
Bristol paper of various brands, usually whatever is available at the
time. In fact, I bought three pads of 19" x 24" to cut to
size so it will be awhile before I need to purchase more. A pencil for an occasional sketch, a handful of pens, a kneaded
eraser, a ruler, Bristol paper, and I'm good to go.
How can I share my doodles with you?
I'd be delighted to see your work. It's my goal to have a place
where us ordinary people can display our efforts. I have a
guest section for adults and a special place for just for kid's to display
their masterpieces. Send me your doodle in jpeg format, and I'll take
a look. You'll get full credit for your drawings and they'll only be
used by me on this site.
Can I download your art?
No. This is my work and I'd appreciate not have it stolen. You're free
to print a copy of my drawings—for your
own personal use—to use for ideas and how to apply different styles. We artists all learn from each other
and I'd consider it an honor if I can inspire or encourage you on
your creative journey. But please, allow your creative genius to come
forth with your own style and don't depend on copying from me or
anyone else. That will only hinder your development. Kind of like
cheating in school and copying the test answers from the kid next to
you. I wish you well and would enjoy seeing your work.
